High-rise buildings place unique demands on the availability of a power supply.  At the design stage of a thirty storey building, the safety of tenants within that building – whether shops, offices or apartments – is critical.

Balancing the needs of each of these groups of tenants as well as meeting all the local safety standards – will determine the type and quality of service that needs to be guaranteed.

In specifying electrical systems such as a diversely routed cables or automatic transfer systems local to the critical systems, the objective is to maximise availability and minimize risk in the event of fire.

Through the analysis of different design architecture options, this document outlines solutions commonly used to achieve these objectives – with an explanation of the advantages and limitations of each.
